With the greater availability of small size TFTs and the pricing now representing excellent value they are increasingly being selected as a good design option in applications such as hand held instrumentation and POS terminals. 

When incorporating a standard monochrome graphic display it can be difficult to differentiate the look and usability but by opting instead for a small full colour TFTs there is the potential to gain the two benefits of an enhanced appearance and improved functionality.

Other advantages of utilising the TFT option are:

• A simple parallel or serial interface that eases the software development/transition from a mono grayscale model 
• With the display being developed specifically for compact high volume applications the FPC’s are designed to work with standard PCB based ZIF connectors making for fast assembly in customer products 
• In general the ratio of Active Area to the overall module size leaves little redundant chassis around the active area 
• Higher X axis viewing angles compared to CSTN and backlights that are typically 150 to 200cd/m2 giving excellent contrast in high light conditions
